Substance Abuse/Addiction/Alcoholism Interventions:

Interventions are useful and important when a family member has a problem with substance abuse or an addiction and is reluctant or unwilling to seek help. If that is the case, family members and other caring, supportive individuals may get together under the supervision of a trained interventionist, and "intervene" in the situation with a caring confrontation that will, in over 90% of instances, cause the reluctant family member to change their mind, realize the situation, and get into appropriate treatment.

A word of caution: there is a more effective and less effective way to do an intervention. Informal family meetings and confrontations happen all the time in various ways. We say what bothers us to our family members often and sometimes ask for remedies. The substance abuse or alcohol intervention implies a very formal process in order to achieve a specific result; the family member going in to treatment. There are certain essential elements necessary in order to achieve the best chance of success in the most effective way.

I have been facilitating interventions for over 15 years with incredible success. I have been in recovery myself for 20 years, so I know addicts/alcoholics and their patterns of behavior. The successful intervention process involves a couple of preparatory meetings with family members and influential caring friends in which we will make sure that all the important elements are in place to achieve our goals. I will help you design a communication that expresses your concern and desire for your family member to get help. Then, we will arrange a time to present our case to your loved one in a caring, but firm way. The likelihood is that they will agree and enter treatment immediately!

I will help you through the entire process, start to finish, to insure the best outcome. The process is a "win win" situation. Even if the family member initially refuses treatment, there are options and this is a continuing process. I would be glad to go over all the details of the process with you and answer any questions you may have. Please call or email at your convenience.
